As part of the project to build the 200,000m2 animal feed storage depot on the Seaforth Docks in Liverpool, a reedbed filter was constructed to process rain water collected from the roof of the new building to enable the water to be pumped into the freshwater lagoon of the adjacent Seaforth Nature Reserve, managed by the Lancashire, Manchester & N. Merseyside Wildlife Trust. The rain water is collected in a specially constructed lagoon and pumped up approximately 5m to 2 parallel reedbeds for filtering. The cleansed water is then returned to a lower wetland area and any surplus pumped into the freshwater lagoon.
Services provided
