JPR Environmental offers a full reedbed design and creation service, from the initial planning to the planting out and ongoing maintenance of the site.

Whether it be creating a reedbed for wildlife, using reeds to treat waste water or to improve an existing reedbed - we can help.  Click on the following for more details about specific aspects of our services:

We are also considering purchasing a reed cutter to harvest reeds, a useful way to manage reedbeds for wildlife.  Please contact us if you are interested in reed cutting within a reedbed.

Pot grown reeds for sale

Quality pot grown reeds (Phragmites australis) in a range of sizes from 60cc plugs to half litre pots can be supplied nationwide. For a competitive quote on large orders contact us.

We can undertake seed collection and seed testing where local provenance reeds are desired. Plants can be grown in peat-free compost.

Reedbed construction

We undertake the construction of reedbeds - including reedbeds to treat water, water systems to cope with farmyard effluent and large scale wildlife habitat creation schemes.

Reed planting

We carry out the planting of reeds and all types of wetland plants nationwide, using experienced teams to ensure planting success.

Floating Reedbeds

JPR Environmental supply and install small, modular, floating reedbeds that may be utilised individually or joined together to build up a much larger structure.  They are constructed from a durable, buoyant platform supporting a coir pallet that is then planted with Common Reed (Phragmites australis).  The coir provides an ideal growing medium for the reeds allowing them to thrive in areas not normally suited to their growth.

The floating reedbeds are inexpensive, lightweight and can easily be installed into rivers, canals, ponds, lakes or reservoirs. Once installed, they require little maintenance and can be re-sited with minimal effort.  They resist wind and wave action and can be used to prevent bank-side erosion from boat wash.  The aesthetic nature of reeds also means that they can be employed as a floating screen to obscure unsightly features along the waters edge.

Floating reed beds contribute to water cleanliness by filtering out suspended solids and playing host to bacteria which breakdown harmful pollutants.  They can also help to reduce incidence of blue-green algae by providing shade and soaking-up nutrients.

The benefits of reedbeds to wildlife are well documented.   In addition to providing valuable wildlife habitat a floating reedbed can provide a safe haven and spawning area for fish that can shelter beneath protected from bird attack. Floating reedbeds are thus ideal for use in fisheries.

If you would like more information about the supply and installation of floating reedbeds then please contact us.
