Willow Cuttings

Sustainable erosion control

Willow is a very adaptable tree and readily grows from 25 cm cuttings.

Willow is typically harvested between November and April, though cuttings may be frozen and stored for use at other times of the year.

Using willow cuttings is perhaps the simplest method of creating a protective barrier on the bank to prevent soil erosion by water.

The affected site is cleared of vegetation to prevent competition for light in the vital first few months after planting.

The willow grows to form a dense root mat and top growth to provide support for the affected bankside.

Top growth can be retained over a number of years to create a new wildlife habitat or trimmed annually.

JPR Environmental offers a nationwide willow cutting supply and installation service using willow grown at our coppice in Gloucestershire.

If you would like to purchase willow as cuttings please order on our willow website or if you would like to discuss using cuttings to prevent water erosion please contact us.
